The Bognor Pier Trust have announced this week they expect to bid for money from the Coastal Communities Fund. The fund was announced on Monday by the Department for Communities and Local Government. The Department has allocated £36 million in the latest funding round as part of a £90 million funding for coastal projects across the UK from 2017/18 to 2020/21.
The Trust is working towards a bid submission to Heritage Enterprise Lottery later this year. Work is progressing on the bid and in April the Trust instructed dRMM, London based Architects and Designers who were involved in the development of Hasting Pier to develop design concepts for Bognor Regis Pier for the Round 1 Lottery submission.
The pier owners, Bognor Pier Leisure Ltd, have welcomed the progress that Bognor Pier Trust has made in moving towards submission of a Heritage Enterprise Lottery bid.
John Ayers Director of BPL said “The Trust has done an enormous amount of background work to get to this stage. As a company we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Trust to support the HLF application. As the Trust’s commercial partner, we have a common goal in securing the long term future of the pier.”
Paul Wells, chairman of the Pier Trust, welcomed the pier owner’s commitment to the long term future of the pier. “The Trust is committed and working hard towards a HLF submission. Clearly we still have a lot of work to complete before the bid is submitted and we are delighted with the support that has been growing locally.”
The Friends of Bognor Pier Trust currently has 770 paid members, and 436 young supporters.
The Pier is one of 58 piers left around the British Isles, and has been home to the world famous international Bognor Birdman Event that had been running since 1978.
